So Close to Climax
And yet so far from the world’s highest pile.
This week I’m in Colorado, so posting is minimal, but imagine my delight to find that I’m a mere 40 minutes from what is described as the world’s highest comopost pile. Not highest in total pile height, but rather elevation. It’s at the site of a mining ghost town called Climax, resting at a healthy 11,342 feet above sea level.

The high pile was allegedly created to allegedly remediate waste tailings from the mining activities of the Climax Molybdenum Company. Unfortunately I’m stuck in a ski town with no car, so despite my relative proximity I am denied a pilgrimage to visit the Climax pile in person because my family seems to think using an Uber to get there would waste funds better spent on food and shelter, or really anything else. They probably don’t appreciate molybdenum either.
